A drive through some of the best back roads southern Indiana has to offer. You and your co-driver will be given detailed directions to each checkpoint. Not to worry, we will not include any unpaved roads in the rally.

There will be a scheduled stop for lunch that will not count against your time. This would be the opportune time to refuel or pick up any supplies needed.

There are a number of hotels in the area, and a host of attractions to entertain you for the rest of the weekend. An indoor water park, indoor go-karting, laser tag, mini golf, train rides, golf courses, and zip lines are just a few of the local attractions.

The cost is $40 per team.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is a road rally?
A road rally is similar to a poker run. You and your co-driver will be given a list of detailed instructions; as you drive your co-driver will interpret the instructions in order to get you to each check point.

2. Why a "team"?
It's the responsibility of the co-driver to read the instructions and tell the driver where to go. Without a co-driver, the driver would have to read and drive at the same time, which we will not allow.

3. Where does the route start and end?
The route starts in French Lick, IN at the indoor karting facility and ends in Paoli, IN.

4. Is this a race?
While you are competing against the other teams to come closest to the "secret" time, we are not encouraging anyone to attempt to complete the course faster than anyone else.

5. Will I get pulled over for speeding?
Yes. You will be driving on public roads and all traffic laws will be enforced as they usually are.

6. Is any type of vehicle welcome?
Yes.

7. Can my car be stanced?
Yes. We do not care if your car is stanced, if you break it you pay for it! smile emoticon

8. What does the cost cover in detail?
Registration pays for 2 tee shirts, a goodie bag, stickers, dash plaques, and trophies for the winners.
Additional stickers will be available to purchase on the day of the event.

9. Are there E85 stations/ will I need to bring a gas can?
There are E85 stations along the route, but we are unable to determine your gas mileage for you. We encourage anyone running E85 to bring a gas can just in case.

10. How long is the event?
You can plan on spending the entire day with us!

11. Will there be an inspection of our cars?
Yes, there will be a quick inspection of each vehicle upon arrival.

12. Can we have more than two people per vehicle?
Yes, you may have as many people in your vehicle as you would like.
If the extra passengers in your vehicle would like to purchase shirts they are $10.00 each, please include their sizes in the registration details.

This event almost killed a 16-year-old girl today when one of your racers passed on a hill on a wet road on a double yellow. They struck the girl head-on; she had just gotten her car. No matter what your racers are trying to say, the video circulating shows clearly that they were speeding. It's not just then, even, but eyewitnesses have reported reckless driving at numerous points along the route. We have children down here in Southern Indiana, and your event has put them at risk. I'm absolutely sickened. Peppermint Road Rally needs to end.

#7 ·
A) It's not my event
B) The actions of the drivers is not condoned by the group that runs it. They specficially tell us (the drivers) to obey all traffic laws and to be safe, as it is not a race.
C)Thank you for your concern.

If your plan is to attack this forum, you're shit out of luck. It's a ghost town and not affiliated with the Peppermint rally group.

#9 ·
My intention is not to attack the forum, actually. My intention is to create a presence and expose this event for what it is: dangerous and potentially deadly. We won't tolerate this kind of lawlessness and lack of regard for human life in our area.

So you found my Facebook post? Fantastic; it only shows me that I'm getting the point across.

These types of events are done all throughout the US..Most of them are video taped. Do you plan to target them too?

I only found it because someone alerted me that everyone thinks I am the host.

I am NOT the host. Merely a participant who posted this to gain interest in an event that has gone on for YEARS.

#11 ·
Well, I do apologize for the conclusions drawn by those reading my post, and I have updated the post to reflect such.

To answer your question about me "targeting" other events as if I'm some great aggressor, no. If the event went on as it is described (legal and safe, so far as I can tell,) I wouldn't have any issue with it whatsoever. When laws are broken and lives are put at risk such as what happened today, however, I have no problem calling the event out. Whether it's been going on for years or not, illegal is illegal.

The event staff make it VERY clear at the beginning of each event that it is NOT a race against each other. It's merely for a group of like-minded enthusiasts to gather and experience some of Southern Indianas best roads and scenery. Also to gamble and go-kart.

We (the drivers), and I will state this again, were told that we are to obey any and all laws associated with being on the road and to be safe. The actions that some drivers take are not to be reflected with the event itself. Were there a few bad apples? Sure..but every group/gathering/event of some sort has them. Each person signs a waiver stating they understand the rules and to act accordingly.

I hear you loud and clear, Sir; really, I do. I've been familiar with Southern Indiana for years, and I absolutely understand wanting to enjoy driving through its hills and scenery; I think that part of the idea is wonderful.

However, until I see some action from the organizers condemning what happened (and perhaps apologizing to the family), I am not changing what I said. The event created an environment for the behaviors of said bad apples, and that fact cannot be denied, nor covered over.

"The event created an environment for the behavior of said bad apples.."

Do you realize how stupid that sounds?? That's like saying if your child or loved one got cancer from second hand smoke that you should get an apology from Marlboro. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. If somebody wants to act like an idiot on public roads and put others at risk, they don't need the Peppermint Road Rally to do so. Maybe you should blame the manufacturer of the car because it entices people to drive fast due to its "sporty" look and "aggressive" handling features. When are we going to hold people accountable for their actions and stop blaming others??

I will be more than happy to forward that request to them.

My driver and I obeyed laws and finished safe and sound. We had fun. I saw many sights that I had not known existed and will be back to see them again (such as the casino and the entire town as I did not get to explore it fully)As did many others. Judging a group based on a few is a tale as old as time, but one that can easily be avoided by not jumping directly into social media viralation without the proper information.

I saw the car before it was wrecked. It's not a car I would've enjoyed to drive..as it was pretty stanced out. The driver appeared to be younger, and has a lot of testosterone flowing through him. My condolences do go out to the family (I can't remember Susan's last name or the girl that was (hopefully not) injured.)

I don't believe I admitted to jumping to hasty conclusions, but being as you're being so courteous in our discussion, I'll allow it.

As I said, when I see public action from the organizers, I will consider changing what I've said. However, something needs to be understood; when the only knowledge the local populace has of your event happens to be of profanely-decorated vehicles speeding through dangerous areas on wet days and posting photos of such (and dare I repeat, causing accidents), it really can't be expected that anything short of a negative conclusion will be drawn.

If your organizers make an effort to connect with the area and explain what it is that you really do, perhaps we'll be more understanding.

#16 ·
You do make a valid point. Perhaps next year the event hosts will have a larger local presense and help show you it's not this hellfire group formed to terrorize different areas.

Someone must have left their safe place. The coordinators can preach safety day and night and some fucktard will still drive like a Jackass and ruin it. From what I understand someone caught it all on tape and gave that to the police when they showed up to the accident. It's not the events fault some retard couldn't handle his FWD car in the rain. Someone like this has showed up to every car gathering I have ever been to so preaching about it won't stop anything. There will always be some retard trying to show off. You'd have to be a retard to think the coordinators condone this behavior.

SouthernIndiana, are you done being a little bitch? I applaud your attempt to bring the shit hole town we call loogootee together in these harsh times. This accident will go down in the history books as the first thing to happen in this sad town in the past 5 years.

To clear a few more points up-
The people driving past the accident drove through after seeing that everyone involved had gotten out of their cars, to clear the way for emergency vehicles to arrive and to get away from the crest of the hill which could have resulted in additional crashes or a pileup when traffic was backed up on the wet road. The 70 mph speedometer picture in question was taken on I-69 by the passenger while en route to the rally, NOT on a back road or anywhere near Loogootee. Event organizers emphasized at every point that the intention was not to violate traffic laws or drive above the drivers' skill levels for the conditions, and the option was offered to head straight to the rally destination after the second accident due to conditions. Other than a couple incidents, everyone else (at least 30 something cars) drove at a comfortable speed and finished the route without incident as was intended.

@ the other posters: I'm a third-generation worker in emergency services, and I've seen more of this stuff than any of you will in a lifetime. Hush.

However, my ultimate goal in this whole thing was to make enough noise to get into contact with the organizers after the group had disappeared to ascertain the true intention behind this event and hopefully encourage an apology to the family. Because the organizers have shown integrity in this, I will be changing all of my posts.

I wish the rest of you honest rally drivers the best of luck when you come through the area next time, and I would like to thank the organizers for their actions this morning and let them know that they have earned my respect.
