VW's have a history of being riddled with electrical issues.

1.8t motors get sludge issues if oil changes aren't done regularly. There was a few years that they had issues with the coil packs.

As long as maintenance is up to date, tbelt, water pump, etc you shouldn't have any issues.

I had an 03 Jetta 1.8T that had a lot of electrical problems. Sunroof would open on it's own even parked with the key out. Door open chime would go off driving down the road. Dash lights would all come on and off randomly. Bad coil packs. Fuse block on top of the battery fried. Cooling fan module went bad. It was a fun car with the REVO tune on it but not worth the headaches.

This. Never had any issues with my 1.8t cars, but did do regular maintenance on them.
