I Had just about everything ready to do the swap on my E36 late last year but decided my chasis was garbage wasn't worth finishing so I parted everything out minus the motor and trans.

Fast forward to now

Earlier this week picked up a 1968 Camaro from a family friend. The car started life as a base model 6 cylinder car but was swapped to a 327 4spd manual by the previous owner. The previous owner bought the car when he was 16 but unfortunately he lost his battle with Leu Gehrigs disease in 2017. The car has been sitting for the last 5 years or so since he was disabled. I saw the car sitting and politely told his wife that if she ever decided to sell it, I would love to purchase it.

About 3 weeks went by and she contacted me asking me to throw out an offer, so we scheduled a day for me to look it over. The car appeared to be in decent shape, the floor pans were shot and it had a couple rust spots on the quarters. I wasn't sure what shape the motor and trans were in but it really wasn't a concern anyways because I have a motor and trans already. After agreeing on a price I bought the car this past Wednesday and brought it home.

Once I got the car home I grabbed some tools I was able to turn the motor over by hand. Since it turned over I decided to see if it would run instead of using my other motor. I put fresh oil in it, fresh fuel, and grabbed the starting fluid. After about 15 seconds of running on starting fluid the fuel finally made its way to the carb and she began to idle on her own. The valve train was a tad noisy at first which I expected but it smoothed out pretty quick and she sounded great! I was also pleasantly surprised that the motor had an aftermarket cam that I didn't know about. I plan to restore the car over the next several years and document as much of it as possible. This is a car I have dreamed about since I was a kid and I actually enjoy working on it. I'm dieing to drive it but I have to do some work on the brakes before I can take it on the road. I'm hoping to have it driving within the next couple of weeks.

Here's a link to a short clip at idle and a few pictures when I initially looked at the car.

Ordered a disc brake conversion for the front last night. Eventually it will have 4 wheel disc brakes but I'm not too concerned with the rear brakes at the moment.

Over the past week I got the Front disc brakes conversion done, cleaned up the engine block, repainted the intake, and refinished the valve covers. I also gave the car its first wash in probably 5 years.

Got the headlights and tailights working today. The taillights just needed new bulbs, the headlights needed a new dimmer switch.
