Back in the Honda Game

Well, I've been itching for an older Honda to start playing with again, and I found one that fit the bill. I haven't decided what route I'm going to take with this car, but for now, I am driving it to work and enjoying the MPG.

1988 Honda CRX Si. I am the third owner, 134k miles, all stock except for some Raceland coilovers.

To do list:
Fix exhaust (Tanabe Medalion Touring most likely - quiet)
Fix seat tear
New corner lights
New rear triangle window clips
Timing belt on D16 in the meantime
New paint to prevent any rust
B16A engine swap (later)
EDM deck spoiler
Some sort of wheels
Rear brake disk swap

Here are a few photos:

The car was in need of a deep cleaning. I just started out with a quick wash and buff/polish.

Headlights were also in need of some love.

I plan to wet sand and buff them in the near future.

After washing and buffing on the car some. It looks better, but still needs a lot of love. I may end up repainting the entire car to repair the dings/dents and deep scratches/missing clear coat.

Pulled the spoiler off since the gasket was hanging out. Cleaned it up underneath, and reinstalled. This will certainly need to be painted.

Also decided that the Gorilla Tape wasn't going to hold up very long to water/wind, so I glued on some vinyl patches. Not very pretty, but it will help in the short-term.

Opened up the engine bay and gave it a spray down with degreaser, then pressure-washed and dried it. Looks a million times better.

Decided to pull all three cars out and snap a few photos of them together.

I had been doing research on how to replace the soft top, but after reading that it takes 8+ hours and requires a lot of patience, I decided to start looking for hard top options. I really wanted an OEM hard top, but after seeing the price of ($4,000-5,000), I looked at replica options. I ran across something I could live with on eBay and had it shipped up from Florida.

It even came with a roller stand!

It is a replica carbon fiber Amuse-style top. It's similar to the OEM styling, but uses an MR2 hard top rear glass. I got this because it was only $750 before shipping and had the glass rear, looks nearly OEM, and came with the stand.

Back to the CRX:

Finally got around to installing one of my Christmas gifts: A simple gas cap holder that mounts inside the gas cover.

Also pulled off my old front mud flaps that were torn and replaced them with some intact ones.

Made a major score from a local Honda guy that had been sitting on some OEM floor mats for several years. These things are one of the most difficult things to find for CRX's.

Finally, my dash is cracked, so I asked for an OEM replica rubber dash mat to fit perfectly in the dashboard instead of trying to replace the entire dash.

Haha! I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the S2000 yet. I'm thinking I'm just going to keep it stock and throw some decent tires on it. It's in need of a paint job. I could always sell it as it sits and make $3k, though, so it's a tough decision.

I still plan on it. I've got 99.9% of everything I need. I might possibly need a slim fan for the A/C. I honestly think it will make the car a better car. It's not 100% factory, as it's been repainted, different suspension, rear disk swap, at one point the rear quarter panel has been replaced, etc., etc. This isn't one of those Bring A Trailer cars, in my opinion. It could sell for a decent amount, but nothing crazy. I'd rather put a more powerful engine in it and make it a better all-around car.

Picked up a B-series OEM intake tube so I can keep the OEM intake box.

Decided to sell the Comptech header and replace it with one that will work with A/C: The OEM B16A intake manifold.

Decided to spend a few minutes cleaning the engine bay. I have yet to spend much time at all under here.

Picked up a windshield repair kit from Amazon and decided to try to reduce the noticeability of the cracks in my windshield before I decide to replace it entirely. I still have another one to do, hopefully tomorrow when the sun is out. I think it turned out really nicely. The crack was in the windshield when I bought the car, so it may have turned out better if it had been fixed soon after it happened.

I had ordered my B-series A/C bracket about a month ago, and SwapShopRacing finally got it to me, but when I went to mock it up, it turns out it is missing the spacers required, and two of the holes were not completely drilled out. A replacement is in the mail now, so hopefully this one is manufactured correctly.

Bolt won't fit through these holes - they aren't drilled through like they are supposed to be.

As far as the S2000. I decided to go ahead and do the OEM airbox mod to get some more noise out of it, as well as swap in a K&N filter.

I also picked up some Ebay side strakes and front lip. They needed some Dremel work to get to fit acceptably. Test fit.

Finally got motivated to get some parts painted. Took off the OEM spoiler, since it was basically faded down to the primer nearly.

Also, new tires!

Got these things installed. I used the OEM trim on the side strakes and front lip to give them a more refined look. I think it makes it look like factory parts, for the most part.

Well, I sold the S2000. I bought it for $4800, spent some money on tires, a hard top, K&N filter, front lip, side strakes, and buffed it like crazy, and sold it for $9500. I also got to enjoy it for a few months. Not a bad way to make nearly $3,000.

Now I can put some focus back on the CRX and STi. The STi need some maintenance items like axle boots, endlinks, and other various items.
