What are a-spec points?? Further more, what are B Spec points and all the values associated with them (machine level, battle level, etc.) I know how to aquire the points I just don't know what they are used for, nor why the number awarded vary from race to race, etc.

Anyone help out with that?

B-spec points basically equals the skill of your driver, so I've heard. The more points you have the better you driver will be and he will make less mistakes. As for the machine and battle I have no clue.

all good questions that no one seems to know

I heard that the a-spec points open up more courses and such, like you know when you complete a couple races and you go back to the home menu and it says "SO AND SO COURSE NOW AVAILABLE BLAH BALH BLAH"

And I figured the b-spec points make you a better b-spec driver.

I also figured out, since I dont have my ib or ia license, that you an race events requiring those, in b-spec mode, but not a-spec, thats good so I can make some quick money. Get what Im saying?

Losing Golds…

There are many different sets of races (eg. Sunday Cup) and within that set there is a certain number of races you complete before winning that set (i.e. Sunday Cup has 5 races, upon completion you get a car). However, if you wish to go back a race in that set again you will lose those 5 victories, meaning you must re-win all 5 again to get another car. This doesn't affect your game completion or previously won awards.

B-Spec mode…

5 different levels of aggressiveness, and 1 button for over-taking cars, one button for pitting, you can also switch to detailed screen showing stats for each car such as lap times, car status, distance between each car, etc.

Missing…

Special Stage R11 didn't make it into GT4.

Starting out…

You start out with 10,000Cr - enough to buy a second hand car.

Display info…

There are 3 display resolutions:

480i / 480p / 1080i

1080i is only available for those with Component/D-terminal.

Obviously graphics are much improved, as is the sound. Particular improvements are the shadowing, reflections, and backdrops during races.

No reported frame-rate issues. 1080i is only supported during racing and photo mode. During menus it downgrades to 480.

Hidden cars…

According to some sources there will be some hidden cars, including Ferrari's (not confirmed). Hidden cars include The Blitz ER34, Nob S15 & Option x Jun Fairlady.

During races when you collide with an opponent in front of you, or get hit from behind, in first person view your ‘head’ snaps forward and backwards, and your vision is blurred for a split second.

Some of the best graphics on PS2, especially when run in 1080i. The physics are improved; cornering seems harder, as you can really feel the shifting of balance when corner. There is a new G-force bar on the HUD. Engine sounds are improved and accurate.

Tuning options…

You can buy rims and adjustable spoilers for your car. Lots of after-market tuning shops are available, such as SPOON, MINES, HKS, etc.

The are no confirmed body modifications.

Difficulty…

GT4 is likely to be harder than previous versions. The AI is tougher, and the new A-Spec points system will increase the challenge.

Points…

When you enter a race, the more tuning you have done on that car, the lower the amount of A-Spec points will be awarded to you if you win the race. So if you take a weaker car into a race, you will win more A-Spec points.

Blow jobs…

You can blow your engine. Flooring the engine during the countdown can result in a blown engine sound and revs becoming limited. Your engine keeps popping and you can see visible signs from the exhaust.

For Fiat fans…

So far only 4 FIAT's

Barchetta Giovanne Due '00 Punto HGT Abarth '00 Coupe Turbo Plus '00 500F '65

Home…

The garage shows racing stats and a real "garage". The car you are currently driving will face inwards upon entering garage, and will face outwards upon leaving garage.

what is the different between the different "tuner shops"? they all seem to have the same parts at the same prices...

Some shops allow you to get "Orginal" turbo kits I've noticed. And there is sometimes a price difference.

between tuner shops, it's all equal.

the tuners in 'tuner village' or whatever it's called have the option of 'original' turbos and suspensions. The 'original' turbos are slightly weaker than the stage 4 (think 1-3 hp), but promise less lag (dunno how much less, or even if it really is). They're also cheaper than the stage 4s (usually about 8k less).

"Original' suspensions are like the full adjustibles, but are ~800 less and only have 'shock absorber' adjustbility vs bound and rebound adjustibility.

IMO, the 'original' turbos are worth it, but the suspensions aren't.

1080i is beautiful, btw. But the ps2 always has this dumb setting that sets it back every few races. if you quit a race, you have to go back in and reset the video mode. if you turn off the ps2, you have to go back in and set it. kinda like the dts in GTA. the video mode won't save so that if you took your memory card to a friends house without Hd, the game would still be visible. PMO!

fast way to r34 400 - buy cheap rx-7 fd for 15 grand. take it to japan races, 90+ battle. even stock (a-spec) (b-spec driver sucks so bad at this point) you should be able to beat frikkin preludes and miatas. win the series and the '96 r34 400 hp+ version. go to nissan races take the r challenge (iB license for a-spec, b license for b-spec). each win is 12,000, for the 5 race series you win a $105,000 skyline, sell it. mod the r34 to ~700 hp. from there, you can win easy cash to make some bucks. once that r34 is modded to full, put the b spec driver on "slow down" speed the game up 3x and let the cash roll in. he won't make any mistakes on slow down, but he'll own all the other r's. in about 10 minutes you can rake in $165,000. So the first few hours of the game could earn you about 3 million. That's a nice nest egg to have.
