hey guys, I am going to buy a different vehicle.
Im thinking either a truck of equal value to my car or spending
a little more money and getting an eclipse turbo.
I dont have a problem spending more money for the eclipse, but I dont want a car thats going to need huge repairs.
Now I've heard a lot of things about dsms, such as the weak trannies, crankwalk, etc..
Question is, how realistic are the chances of this happening?
ANd is that usually only a problem if you make the car have huge amounts of hp????
What are your alls opinions about the quality and all that stuff..
Oh and I was also wondering about the 1st gen. GSX's, what kind of 60' times do they have stock, whether from say a 2-3k launch or a 5k launch?
Thanks

If your looking for a reliable dailey driver Id look somewhere else. The cars have big potential but require a good amount of work. The is a reason why the majority of DSMs around here are sitting on jackstands.:D

DSM's are good race cars they can be made as good daily drivers just remember you take care of the car and it will take care of you.
the 60 ft times all depend on the driver and how agressive you are with it.

hmm.....where to begin! they can and are very reliable as long as you don't start fucking wtih it. totally stock cars can run 180K + on original parts if just maintained well. but........start modding, making more power, etc. shit is going to break. that's just the truth of cars. all that stress has to have a reaction somehwere. 300 hp out of 4 cyl. is more stressful than on 8 cyl. my friend in phoenix has a 370+ rwhp ls1 camaro that runs perfectly every day, with a/c on , in traffic, at the track, commuting, etc. no problems ever. my talon? forget it.
then people get a dsm who have no idea how to work on cars, and think it's like a honda, just drive and change the oil. they then have something break, they fix it, then they throw a couple mods on, something else breaks, they fix it, they they say, "shit my honda never broke after all the mods i did, dsm's are pieces of shit". well, duh, your honda never made more than 200 HP either!
to those people, i say" dont' buy a dsm, leave them for those of us who actually know about them"
if you want to take the time to read and learn about it, then it can be a very good car, i loved mine and will buy another soon.

Yeah and those crazy owners who try to get 400+ hp on stock internals tend to give them a bad name :D
well as a owner going from a Honda to one I will tell you it is a totally different ball game. Plus most of the stuff you here about I think is the bad news. There is no news like bad news. So of course your gonna read about crankwalk and how this and that broke. Noone wants to hear about how your car has ran perfectly for like 3 years and you have had no problems. Just keep that in mind. Any and every make of car can have problems. Honda's seem that they have less, and they usually do. But you have to think that the typical "modified" Honda in most people's minds is one that runs an intake, header, and exhaust. While maybe adding a little extra power this isn't enough to start breaking things and the car will run almost the exact same as it did stock. I think it is all in how you take care of a car.
