While Jeff's demeanor was probably inappropriate, the gist of his statement stands.

Replacing headlight bulbs is not difficult. It usually involves a screwdriver and about fifteen minutes. Considering Toyota's reputation, you probably won't even need the screwdriver.

As for performance parts for a Lexus... probably not easily available. Tell him to enjoy the lights, buy a nice radio, enjoy his deadpan reliable Lexus, and do some research before buying a project car. Hopping up a Lexus is going to cost a fortune and won't get you going nearly as fast as a lot of other platforms.

I don't know why you would say that. My Lexus IS300 has a lot of "performance". My car has dyno'd at well over 500 rwhp. The platform is incredibly reliable and essentially unlimited upgradability. I don't know a single person that would say the 2JZ platform won't "get you going nearly as fast as a lot of other platforms". Maybe you are referring to the 1UZ?

You can't read.

Is that the worth of this forum? Stumble to trash talking? You said performance parts for Lexus are "probably not easily available". PHR, SRT, Turboeast, PFS, Toyomoto, Boost Logic, etc. make kits for Lexus cars. You said, "Tell him to enjoy the lights, buy a nice radio"... not a crack at him? You said modifying a lexus "won't get you going nearly as fast as a lot of other platforms".

Is there something that I mis-read?

Remember the last generation SC300's also had the 2JZ engine with an OBD 1 ecu. It had a non-vvti head along with a drive by cable throttle body. It really is one of the legends in the lexus community. A lot of people with IS300's swap the throttle body and head from the SC300 into their car. I can understand the LS and ES as being slower though. :)

Thus turbo6's whole statement which you've still failed to comprehend.

Also check out the Lexus Owners forum:

There are alot of things you can do with the 1U V8 & to say they can't make big power....well  It will just cost big $$$ compared with the SC300 with a 2JZ N/A Just for example the 1U is the 1st engine I have seen that the intake mani needs to be removed to replace the starter.

Do you see anywhere in his post anything about certain Lexus models? The IS, GS, & SC are all cars that are heavily mod'able. That only leaves the LS and ES. More are easily mod'able than not.

www.supraforums.com, www.suprastore.com. Both of these should be able to assist you in finding both the information you need about your car as well as parts, be it aftermarket or oem. And as for Turbo6's statement, what I got out of it was that you will need to spend a hell of a lot more money to make a fast lexus as you would to make a fast, well, most anything else.

 Jesus man...

The original question was about an LS. What the fuck did you think turbo6 was talking about? An RX300?!
