i have a 1.8t gti....have the stock turbo..and it clicks only under heavy acceleration....it only starts in the upper rpm range -4000rpms.......this all started when i got a turbo inlet and a downpipe...i have an inch clearance on my downpipe so im pretty sure it not hitting the firewall or anyting else .....i can take it to redline without flooring it and the turbo dosent click...but as soon as i get on it ...it starts up again...any soulutions?..anyone else had this problem?....please help!!

I bet this is detonation and not anything hitting something under the engine bay. Dont let it detonate too much.

does it sounds like pinging? like a little metal ball is bouncing around? sounds like detonation.

i think its my wastegate!.....i took it to grossman and we drove it around....he coulndt really tell me what was going on ...but im pretty sure its my wastegate!...it really goes crazy when im going about 90 and i mash it ...then back off it really hard...so im pretty confident its ok

just saw in your avatar it says 20psi if your running stock vw injection and turbo etc at 20 psi, its probably detonation on 93 octane esp.

i dont think his car is stock, it seems like it is, but i saw this post on CVOL and its more detailed. its not detonation its an exhaust leak i garantee it.

yes...i have most bolt ons u can buy to let the engine breath better....it really only does it when i back off hard after i have floored it...and thats why i thought it had something to do with the wastegate.....and still do
im still really not sure..but im gonna take a good look at the car tomm
this only started happening when i got my turbo inlet and downpipe on!so u could be right.....i hope anyway .......and its really not a knock or a ping ping but more like ....well i cant really describe it....

best way to find out take it to a dyno if you have the money and do a couple pulls and listen closer for the noise and take tools to fix any leaks. or whatnot or if you know someone with a lift put it on the lift thats how we do things sometimes if we have too.

now that i think about it...its more like a fluttering noise......just anwser this.....could it be my wastegate?....i know its not my diverter valve because it did this before i put it in.

well if its a fluttering it could be the wastegate or bov possibly, its one of those things that you cant explain to people we have to see or hear it to tell you what it is

you got a boost leak prolly cause somethin plastic (all vws have plastic everything nowadays) ripped...find the hole and that will fix it...you should also check all gaskets...good ruck (ching chang)

its not a boost leak...i checked everything...-had a boost leak last weekend ..one of the clamps came off my intercooler and was making a loud ass sssshhhh.......at anything over 9 psi......im thinking it might be a gasket as well so i guess thats the next step......

haha :p ....i was thinking between the turbine and the downpipe....would that be considered a boost leak?

anything connected to the turbo such as piping, gaskets, or the like

Technically, boost comes from the compressor side, so a boost leak would only be from charge air. He said "from the turbine," that would be an exhaust leak.

Check for leaks, especially on the downpipe flanges. I've had cars with cracked exhaust manifolds before. The gas escaping the cracks at high throttle/RPM made a sound that was a cross between fluttering and ticking. Could be a million other things too, but that's my guess. Let us know when you figure it out. Good Luck. :bigthumb:
