Ok, I looked around on the internet and nobody seems to have a lot of information on idea. I know I can't be the first one to have thought about it.
What would happen if you took a 90-96 N/A 2.2 and built it with high compression pistons, big cams and a Supercharger instead of a Turbo. If it could work, that would be a pretty strong power-band. My guess is that you could put close too 220-240 whp. Maybe I'm way off on this.
I was thinking:
* Pullies
* 265 or 265/272Cams
* 10.5:1 or 11:1 Wisco
* Stroke and bore to a 2.5
* Medium size supercharger
* Maybe a little NoZ if you feel spicey.?
* Downpipe
* Big Exaust
* Metal Head-Gasket.

Two things...
(1) High compression and boost don't usually go together.
(2) Cams and boost also rarely go together, unless it's a cam ground specifically for forced induction. NA cams have a good deal of overlap and pretty much allow the boost to just blow through.

AHA! Well that explains pretty much everything. For some reason I thought that SuperChargers were not as hard on the engine as turbos, which is why I considered it as a possible. Thanks for the info.

swap in a V6 from a camry, then supercharge it
if not, then go home

It'll be cheaper to get a gen3 swap and upgrade the IC and run a little higher boost and get the same results.

Thats why I got a swap. The tranny is worthless.

* Downpipe
Really?

Really?
:confused: :confused: Are you joking or seriously asking a question?
When I said medium I was referring to a supercharger that isn't meant to produce 5000 HP or 5 hp. somewhere in between reasonable range settings.
As for the DP, although its moot point, removing the caty is always better than with.

Says who?
In the MR2 world the 2.2 is what is lusted after. Ask chrisK or KO.
If you can make 750HP on a 2.0, I think a 2.2 might have a *little* potential.

To the matter at hand......
Boo to the SC.
Turbos are better.

The extra .2 litres make no difference. The 3SGTE is FAR superior to the 2.2L. The 2.2 has a weak flowing head, weak rods, pistons, prolly weak crank, has no aftermarket support, and revs to a mind numbing 6400 rpms or so. The 5SFE is just not a performance motor.

If they put it in the camry it has to be big par.

My little (or should I say large?) 2.2L suits me just fine for now. :hs:
In time a 3SGTE will find it's way in there with an Autronic.

up until about 4 months ago the MR2 hp record was held by a turbo'd 5SFE at 585hp.
