Does anyone get into Harry Potter i.e. read the books and/or watch the movies? I used to think it was pretty lame and childish, then I watched the first movie with Sarah and became... well... enthralled to say the least.
I was/am REALLY big into TLOTR as Tolkein is the greatest author of fiction ever with J.K. Rowling coming in a close, yet still distant second place. Harry Potter has a lot of similarities to TLOTR and Tolkein's work, which is why I love it so much. The movie turned me onto the series and the books are even more amazing and entertaining. If you enjoy a good read or are into TLOTR the I suggest you read the 4 Harry Potter books that are out now (in sequential order). The 5th enstallment of the Harry Potter series hits books stores June 21st, I have a copy reserved at Barnes and Noble with 40% off the cover price. I can't wait for it to come out and for the new movie to come out this Holiday season.

nah seriously, harry potter surprised me as not being as child-directed as i thought... although the vibrating nimbus 2000's that were sold then retracted were interesting i heard. all in all, i honestly say i like the first 2 movies and am looking forward to seeing the next one

2nd on the proper acronym (LOTR, not TLOTR). Also, even though the HArry Potter books are indeed very good and highly entertaining (as are the films so far), JK Rowling really isn't that great of a sci-fi author. She is a very good children's author, however, which is what matters since they are, after all, children's books. If you want to read some good sci-fi, I highly recommend the book "Ender's Game", by Orsen Scott Card (IIRC).

Well, Harry told me last night that he's mine and ONLY mine :)
I cannot wait for the new book!! I think they have a reading level of 3rd grade, but that's ok... It's the first time I've ever been able to read almost 800 pages in 2 days and then want to re-read the book :D The movies are actually really good adaptations of the book and hardly leave anything out. Good times!

Ok, so now to stop all the bullshit hijacking of this fabulous thread :squint: Has anyone finished the 5th book yet? I'm disappointed in myself... I'm not even through with the 3rd chapter yet. I'm a disgrace to Harry :(

One of the girls at work is reading it, and she can't put it down, she said that in an interview J.K. Rowling said one of the characters who's been with us from the beginning is going to die...I suppose the suspense of who that is, is enough to keep her reading.

I heard about that interview too...ask the girl at work how far into the book it is! I have GOT to find out who it is! It's killing me!!

i am on the 4th book, i heard someone dies in this one too ...
i think it is going to be sirius black! (harry's god father)
NOO I DONT WANT TO KNOW BEFORE I READ THE 5TH BOOK, WHO's GOING TO DIE IN IT!!! so dont say in this post please...even with the suspense of wanting to know who will die...the 4th book is all around just as good as the others. i love it just like the 3 before it! :)

I didn't ask WHO dies, I asked how far in...
The person that dies in the 4th book isn't really that important of a character until that book, so it's not a huge deal...the person in the 5th book though IS and that's why I want to know how far in I have to get to!!! I think it's Hagrid, but I could be wrong.
P.S Suck it, Dave! Why do you keep reading this thread then if you despise my fictional lover so much? :p

i think hagrid dies in the 5th one 2...wow great minds think alike ...hehe!

I will cry like such a lil' bitch if it's Hagrid. Ugh, and that will be HORRIBLE in the movie! :(
