Just thought I'd breathe a little life into the board and post about some of my gains. Last month I've switched to a new program called Max-OT. Some may be familiar with it, some may not. I've been very satisfied with the results as I've made more gains in the past 4 weeks than I had in the past 6 months.
Just for fun, here's some comparisons between where I was 6 months ago and where I am now..
note: these are not my maxes, it's what I work out with. Plz don't try and post you lift more or whatever, it's all a pissing contest and how much you lift is a poor measurement of strength, tis all about the routine :)
6-months ago...
Pull-ups (palms out) starting out I was lucky to be able to do 2 :hs:
Curls: 20lbs sad.
Squats: 230lbs not bad.
Bench: 115 weaksauce!
Military press: 65lbs ugh!
current...
Pull-ups - 10+ depending on how froggy I'm feelin'. Not great, but a huge improvement!
Curls - 35lbs Teh guns are growing!
Squats: 280lbs My legs are ginormous!
Bench: 155lbs - Geting closer to my body weight...
Military press: 85lbs - still not great but geting there.
Summer Goals!
Pull-ups - I wanna be able to knock out 20 in one set :)
Curls - 45lbs by September!
Squats - haven't really set a goal here, I'm advancing steadily and currently happy with what I'm puting up.
Bench - 175lbs, my body weight
Military press - break 100.
Geting ready to start on a few new supplements and more nutricious diet soon too, that should really help me out in meeting my goals :D
So how has everyone else been doing?

Wow nice dude.
You are definity impressing me that you have hit it this hard and still keep going. I try to lift when i can but its definitely not to my full potential. Mostly cause i have the wrong equipement.
If i wanna do a back squat, i'm having to deadlift, clean, and press it over my head, and then bring it down to my shoulders. Then i have to have enough strength to get it off my shoulders without dropping it. Needless to say my squat is hella weak cause i'm only doing what i can military press, which is like 90-100 lbs tops.
As far as overall results i'm still very happy with crossfit.
Btw, dont forget to do palm down curls as well. I do the same amount of weight on curl both ways. :) Doing alot of cleans and pullups helps that happen.
Congrats man and keep up the hard work!

i haven't been able to work out since i have to get my id renewed at u of l's gym. which is kind of pointless since i won't be attending u of l anymore. i've been keeping up with a morning routine of about 50 pushups and anywhere from 100-200 crunches. i miss my daily routine working out 3-4 times a week though damnit.

Very nice Kyle. The pullup challenge version 2b is coming soon.. Challenge 2 is put on hold until Scott's return. Ric was also talking some major poo in chat the other day. He mentioned something about doing alot of handstand pushups.. i dont know.. i got scared and bailed!
I think you need to be able to pull 8 pullups off as a base to be in the challenge, we're still taking entrants if anyone is interested :)

I just started going to the Y. I decided that I was WAY to fat and gross to hit the beach when I go on vacation in August. Its pretty sad start and rather embarrassing the amount of weight I do considering my size. Bench is so damn bad I use the machines right now because some old man showed me up the other day. Right now Im not doing much of a total workout. I ride alot of bike, and do lots of ab work. squeeze in some curls, and machine press. Maybe after it get alittle stronger Ill hit the free weights.

I'd recommend not using the machines. You're better off to get on the free weights and work the stabilizing muscles as well as the main movers. Just remember: everyone has been at a low weight or out of shape or something. Get in there and workout for you and not to impress the old man benching more than you.

Easy to say but its totally unfun to be 245lbs and working out with less than 100 :(.

Alrighty then fitness guru...(joking, not being a dick) what would you recommend for someone who desperately needs to get into shape BUT has one arm that is basically a big wad of scar tissue from a wrist that has been broken twice and a rotator cuff that has seen waaaaay to much tendonitis (sp?). I can't do any bench pressing at all because my right arm has about half the strength of my left. Anything that I have done so far has just further injured it and over developed my left arm. I'm not looking for much more muscle mass, I just want to lose the fat, and there is way too much of that right now.

I would think just stretch it really good and work on making sure you can use your full range of motion. No results are going to come fast from injury, it will be a long and slow process. Alot of injuries (produced by weightlifting) can be avoided though just by being flexible.
Yes you can bench press, just not with the barbell. Use a dumbell on the one arm and slowly make gains. Eventually it will even up. I know several people that NEVER use a bar for bench press. You are guaranteed to have both arms lifting the same weight with dumbells.
Summary: Stretch the hell out that sumbitch and buy some dumbells. :)

WAY TO stick with it and keep your focus. i've been taking the last 3 weeks off. well i went monday but for some reason i just don't ahve the energy to go in there after sweating my ass off working on cars all day. i have to do it though, i'm losing strength, lost 15 lbs on my dumbell bench presses, down to the 120's after only 3 weeks off. that sucks, i worked way to hard to get there to lose it that fast.
anyway, keep it up.

he's right. stretch and massage the arm that has all the scar tissue in it. I read an article not too long ago that had to do with scar tissue forming from lifting injuries as well. The more you massage it out the more you break up some of that extra scar tissue and let it heal with real muscle fiber. Now.. you may face the same difficulty I have.. getting a cute chick to come over and do the massaging :o It's a hard task man, :le sigh: ;)

I think Eric and Dave have pretty much answered it. Go slow with the weight (as in don't go too hard too early, not lift slow), stretch the range of motion to get back to full ROM, and massage the muscles there if sore. If you want to lose fat, check this thread (http://www.502streetscene.net/forum/showthread.php?t=6478). Some longer distances as well, such as maybe a 3 mile run once a week, but interval work will knock that fat off pretty quickly.

Heh, I've had that cute chick for 2 years and 2months so I'm alright in that department. And, Scott, thanks for the interval information. I've honestly never heard of doing a program like that. I guess it just shows how long I have been out of the game. I, like many people, have always thought that the distance was the thing that mattered the most.
